I don't think they are British. There are a couple of what look like Lewis guns on the right but that isn't a Vickers. Looks like a Maxim and a Hotchkiss on the left?

The guns on the left are Lewis Guns but the soldier on the right appears to be wearing 'Jack Boots'.

The frame holding the heavy machine gun does not look like a British piece of equipment.

Has anyone suggested Irish (Eire) Troops?

The question of the troops being Irish had crossed my mind as well, however the Jack boots would seem to make this somewhat unlikely. British or Commonwealth troops wore a lace up boot during this WW!/post WW1 period if not mistaken.

Finnish troops came to mind, however the architecture beyond would not seem to be applicable to that region (endulge me on this, it's my profession).

My vote would be with those who noted Eastern europe
