Berliner, Muenchner, Dresdner, Hamburger, Frankfurter, Koelner ILLUSTRIERTE - same???

    Dear Forum,

Are these weekly magazines in content the same? If not, are these completely different or are these largely overlapping (with even the same cover photo) with just one or two pages dedicated to their own area? Please enlighten me. Thanks!

I have read a fair number of the Berliner's and the Münchener's. They are completely different. Stock pictures, yes, from time to time. But two tottaly different papers

All the Illustrateds were completely different until the end of August 1944. At that point the publishing industry was radically consolidated. The only illustrateds allowed to survive after then were the Berliner, Wiener, Stuttgarter, Muenchner, Hamburger and Koelnischer Illus.

BUT Vienna, Munich, Stuttgart, Cologne and Hamburg from that point on were identical to the Berliner Illus. They carried the same stories, photos and ads. They were allowed to use their name on the front cover and at the top of each page but in reality they were the same as the BIZ from then on.

A few other magazines were allowed to survive: Signal, Illustrierter Beobachter and a few others. But the illustrateds effectively vanished at the end of August 1944 - except for the BIZ.
