    nice pressent !

hi guys ,i was given this picture from a friend of my father .
his parrents had to give a room to a leutnant during the war in the city of gent in belgium .
they told my fathers friend that he was very friendly and helped a lot in the house .
he gave them this picture as a pressent in 1943 and signed it .
i think it reads : Aug. Dahm 1943
    maybe "Aug." stands for "August"
i don't know wat happened to him ,they never saw him again...
    hope you like it ,jo.

That is a great present. It is really nice to have a personal story behind a portrait photo, especially when it is so close to home. Perhaps you could research his name and find out what happened to him?

It's nice that the host family held onto it all this time. The arrangement sounds analagous to how British civilians provided boarding for American troops prior to Overlord. It never occured to me that the Germans would have similar needs, but it makes sense.

      Thanks for posting.

        belgian boarding

even my grandparents from my mothers side had 3 german officers in the house .
it was a common thing in belgium ,most of all in the litle towns were there are no big buildings for the troops .
