I don't know why the German guy photographed it. Now I am compelled to go on its traces. August, 1942.

In January began destruction of German armies in "kessel". The Soviet infantry occupies Karpovka village. Middle of January, 1943.

In September 1942 on this place there was a house. Today here the deserted football field. Everything changed, except church.

Indeed! Anybody that has been there will recognise the church immediately.

If I'm not mistaken, the open expanse of ground was an airstrip used by Paulus's Storch.
