VWA Document - Signature?

Hello All,

I am in the process of conducting some research on a grouping that I intend to frame, and would like to know who the owner is/was of the signature on this document.

Any ideas?

"Wendorf" ?

The unit was "Stab II / Grenadier Regiment 376" of the 225.Infanterie-Division

I also read the name "Dr. Wendorf".

I found a medical thesis of a Dr. Otto Wendorf from the Breslau University 1920 but I am not shure that it's he.

I guess it would be signed by a "Dr.", since he lists his title as surgeon and chief doctor of a field hospital... a big on my part for not thinking that one through.

I've always like the documents awarded in the field, and I wonder how many VWA urkunden were signed by doctors...

From what i see perhaps half or slightly over half of WB docs are issued at a medical facility. Sometimes you find two docs issued for the same wound, one from a hospital and one from the man's unit.

I know there's a series of books covering the medical services of the WH but i don't know if it gives details of all the field hospitals and rear area base hospitals, including their commanders/chief medical officers and high award holders. If not, we could really do with such a work.

I agree that a comprehensive effort identifying, the often forgotten heroes, (of any country's armed forces) would be a welcome study - I am not sure how much the collector community would appreciate it, but, I know it would make very interesting reading.

Interestingly, I have a VWA-Gold document, also signed by a surgeon at a field hospital, this time in Frankenstein, that lists the actual injuries qualifying the soldier for "Gold." (Fairly gruesome! Amputation of leg at the left thigh and loss of the right eye.)
