GFM Kesselring Italian ribbon

The devices (three crowns) on the Italian ribbon above the Italian Pilot clasp indicates that Kesselring was the bearer of the highest class (Cavaliere di Gran Croce) of an important Italian order.

Here it's difficult to determine which order it was, since the colors are not very clear: if it was green, then it was the order of the Saints "Maurizio & Lazzaro" (the highest Italian order of the "Empire" like they called it...). If it was blue with the red center (like GFM Rommel) it would be the high Military Savoia Order. If it would have been the bravery medal, it just had to be blue. I don't know if this latter had devices on the ribbon, but for sure just one to determine if it was the golden, silver or bronze class.

This medal however would have only awarded for personal gallantry actions and wouldn't have given to generals who would rather receive an order instead of the "medaglia al valor militare d'oro, d'argento o bronzo". There were just two German pilots who receive the Golden Bravery Medal; I think that they were Marseille and Münchenberg. This medal can have be compared with KC of the Iron cross with at least the oakleaves, since this was so sparingly given and often almost only posthumously, like the "Victoria Cross".

The medaglia d'argento (Silver Bravery Medal) was also quite a high decoration, like the German Cross. The medaglia di bronzo I would say that it was on the same level of a IC 1st class.

Münchenberg

As you can see, Münchenberg has got an Italian ribbon on his upper left pocket. This is the ribbon for the "medaglia d'oro al valor militare".
