Old photo. Which branch of service?

    Hi,

I got this photograph with a lot of medals recently.

Can anyone tell me anything about this guy? Which branch of service was he in?

After getting out the magnifying glass i can see that the patch on his left arm above the NSDAP armband reads: "226" with either an "s" or "5" below it.

The reverse is white with no writing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Pierce
