That's not the Balthasar of Luftwaffe fame.

He's an infantry leutnant and the ribbon is for the EKII.

The thing is, as a leutnant with an EKII he's most certainly not a recruit.

I've spent many an hour on the net looking at pics of Wilhelm Balthasar and this does look like him and the signature looks like his to, is there any reason to say if it is him why he would be in a army rather than lufwaffe uniform??

              Thanks all Matt

The signature is a good match for my example from 1940. AFAIK Balthasar was a luftwaffe officer since the mid-thirties

Hi all, just to confirm Balthasar served as a artillery officer 1933-35 before joining the Luftwaffe, the picture and autograph has been compared to others in a private collection and deemed good, thanks

Hi, how sure are we that the ribbon is EKII, to me it looks very thin and the lighter shades compared with another picture are not correct.

Could recruits wear thier fathers medals??

The rank would have matched our mans??

Balthasar was a Condor Legion vet, and received several decorations for his service there. None are what he is wearing here. I can't think of any reason why he would be wearing this uniform at this time.

the pic shows an infantry leutnant with the 1939 EKII.

The artillery wore red wafenfarbe which clearly isnt the case here.

Where did you buy this autograph?
Maybe this will help us to find out if it's authentic.
