    Who is this SS Oberfuhrer?

    Does anyone know?
The seller told me it's Giuseppe Zucconi. It has that name on the back but I have searched and can't find anyone with that name. The photo was taken in 1940.

    Appreciate any help.

    Regards,
    AB.

He is a Standartenführer, not an Oberführer. I have seen the photo before and the name given was the same, Guiseppe Zucconi. I was asked to research the name and could find no mention of him in any SS-DAL. However, it is possible that he was a member of one of the foreign legions of the Waffen-SS. Their names do not usually appear in SS-DAL. I did find him mentioned on an obscure Italian website which had a section on the SS and Facism, but I did not note the web address and now I can no longer find it! I posted the photo on AHF in the hope that more information might be forthcoming, but it was not successful.

Thank you Max. Obviously my knowledge of SS rank insignia needs improving.

Max, would you be so kind to post the link to the website you talking about?

IMHO it's very unlikely that an Italian national would wear a pre-war Colonial German Badge, I strongly suspect the guy was a Reichsdeutsche\Volksdeutsche with Italian origins as many others.
If the picture was really taken in 1940 then we can exclude most of the Foreign WSS Divisions.

He is, anyway, not listed as member Italian SS Legion as far as I can tell.
