That is a great picture George! Do you have other pictures of your great-uncle and/or the unit information that he belong to?

            Regards,

Well, you might have an interesting research project ahead of you! I extracted a brief synopsis of information from The German Police Ground Forces, by Munoz. The date on the Feldpost is important. See below:

Police Regiment “Center” – During the summer of 1941 the 307th Police Battalion was added to the Regiment. They assisted the local Einsatzgruppe. The 307th was removed and became the I/Police Regiment 23 in Cracow.

SS Police Regiment 23 – The I/SS Police Regiment 23 was formed from the 307th Police Battalion (a.k.a III/Police Regiment Warsaw) Located in Cracow in 1943 were it undertook anti-partisan operations. March 26, 1943 the I/SS Police Regiment 23 was listed under SS Kampfgruppe Schimana. Another report indicates that I/SS Pol. Rgt 23 was also transferred to SS Police Regiment 24.

SS Police Regiment 22 - Formed November 4, 1939 from the 301st, 304th, & 307th Pol. Battalion. Part of Regiment 22 was stationed in Warsaw and later part in Lublin. Sent to White Russia in 1944 as a reinforcement and was later destroyed and officially disbanded in Danzig December 21, 1944.

Do you have other documents that might match up with some of above?
