    Question about Luft aircraft papers

Hi. I'm a teacher and use a lot of period pieces to show to class. For about 15 years I have had some Battle of Britain items that include:

    1) a bomber manifest dated July 1940 (marked nach bligerund or something)
    2) two maps of Machester England for bombing purposes
    3) a large map of England (also dated 1940) that was divided into sections (this is one section)-- this one shows red circles etc. obviously for a crew to know their target.

The manifest is rough, the other pieces are in good shape. But I don't have the ability to store them properly over there. Do these types of items have much of a market value at all? If the whole lot is worth let's say $50 I won't worry about it but if these are oddball pieces I might let them go on E-stand. My bet its that they are common and not valued at a lot but if they were uncommon pieces I worry about storage etc. and would rather someone have them who would care for them.

Very difficult to give an estimate without photos of the items. From what you have described I would estimate a figure somewhat higher than $50.

    Regards,
    Bob.

Historians regard the Battle of Britain as taking place between 10th July and 31st October 1940. These documents appear to fall within that period.

Any document from either the British Royal Air Force or the German Luftwaffe that falls within this period is therefore at a premium with collectors and historians.

But not all the documents are in pristine condition and this will therefore have an influence upon their value.

However, their value is far in excess of $50. If I were you, I would not handle these documents any further. Obtain copies etc. Put the documents to one side and away from prying yet interested cihldren. No offence to our future generations of course but we need to protect the past.

An estand price? Difficult to say with accuracy. Maps in general do not command high prices. Probably because of display limitations. What I would be prepared to pay is probably the best estimate I could make.

I would go for $500 on estand as a start.

                Regards,
                Bob
