DKiG winner Ltn. Walter Geisslinger, KG53

I was organizing my "various" award documents binder and did a quick research on small group I have for Leutnant Walter Geisslinger, who flew with KG53. I got his EK2, EK1, bronze and silver kampfflieger clasp award documents all dated 1942.

According to "Die Ordensträger der Deutschen Wehrmacht" he also won DKiG in October 20th 1942 and quite likely also golden clasp and Ehrenpokal.

Does anyone know what happened to his other awards and items, since I guess his grouping was split up few years ago? I got mine from Detlev Niemann.

Also, if there is any information regarding his war time service and his fate I would be very interested to hear about that.

Hi Risto,

He did indeed receive the DKiG on 20/10/1942 as a Ltn in the 2th Staffel of KG53

The book on KG53 doesn't mention him and he also doesn't show up in the loss list.

Can you post scans of the docs?

And the only Geisslinger with an initial of W listed on Volksbund is an Oberleutnant named Wilhelm KIA in February 1945.

If he survived the war, it is interesting that he won all those awards in 1942, but what happened after that? He didn't win the RK... Did he stay as lieutenant for rest of the war? That is bit curious since he was so highly decorated.

Maybe he got wounded and couldn't fly anymore, maybe he was transferred to "office duty" or maybe he became POW? If he died in Siberian death camp, he might not be listed in Volksbund as KIA?
