Who is this Tank Killer & RKT?

    Hi Guys,

Anybody recognize this face? I believe it is Hermann-Gustav Jochims, who died on 4/28/45 while serving as commander of Pz.Gr.Rgt.51 in Berlin. I found a picture in the book Tank Killers by Thomas Breyette & James Bender that makes me think this but I'm not sure, (portrait picture below), although the book only credits him with 4 TDB's and he obviously has 5.

      Hi John
I think you are right. Are you the successful bidder of these wonderful photos ?
I have also seen a photo of Jochims wearing 6 TDBs. He would also has been awarded the CCC in Gold although Dorr does not give any bestowal date.
      A real front line fighter.
      Regards
      Denis

          Hi Guys,

Yes Denis I got these last week. Do you remember where you saw the picture of him wearing the 6 TBD's? Where would be the best place for me to find information on this soldat?

Ralf these are period photos, not postwar. They are out of another soldiers album. There were a few other shots of him also, including him sitting with a group of soldiers. I did not get those other pictures.

I thought that there were only 2 TDB awarded & those were silver for 3 kills & gold for 5.

                    Tank Killer

                    Hi Guys,

-Ralf I am just curious, why do you say that these photos must be postwar? Have you seen them before or something like that?

By the way, mine are all marked Agfa - Brovira on the back.

                    -Kaiser thanks for the info.

-Max Von the TDB Silver was awarded for each tank destroyed. The TDB Gold was awarded for every fifth tank destroyed. It was not uncommon however for a soldier to wear several silver ones before exchanging the first five for the gold one. As you can tell from the pictures, wearing 5 silver ones is quite impressive and can really get the point across.

I highly recommend the book "Tank Killers" if this subject interests you. It is inexpensive and informative. It also has many photos of TDB winners and their tools. I greatly enjoyed it.

                    John

                      Hello guys,

Photo paper in the 50th. and early 60th. was also Agfa Brovira. That is not a stringency for an original wartime photo.

John, I really hope for you that the photos are okay - you payed a lot for them. Is this a glossy paper the photos are printed on?

I did see the photos too, but i did not bid on them. Not because I was sure that they are fakes, but because the Bidders ID kept private. For me it´s an indication that something is wrong. When you look at the threads where Fakes and Copies on Ebay were discussed, in most of the auctions bidders ID kept privat. I think the only reason a seller does this, is to prevent that other people warn the bidders about fakes. Or does anyone knows another logical reason??

                      Only my opinions!

                      Best wishes

                      Joerg

                        Hi Joerg,

I hope they are too! Unfortunately I don't know any way to tell for sure that they are original - do you?

The pictures are on a glossy paper but not a smooth high gloss, a little grainy. What are your thoughts?

This is not the first time I have paid too much for pics, but at least this time they appear to be original. The SS - Hohenstaufen set I bought last year cost me more than twice as much as these and I don't think they are even marked on the paper. You'd think I'd learn!

                            Congratulations John,

well done in identifying him as Jochims!

You recommend Breyettes book but I think one should be very careful with the information in that book as there are numerous errors and mistakes. In example Breyette lists Jochims as having recieved four tank destruction badges.

I do however think that the book is invaluable to the militaria collectors who have an interest in the badges.

Could anyone tell me which bar represents the Ehrenblattspange?

                            Best regards/ Daniel

                              Hi John,

I was sure the photos are from Ebay Germany some days ago - aren´t they??

IMO not all photos have to be marked on the rear. I had several photos our of larger groups that were not marked and others of the same group were marked.

When you put your fingers on the front of the page (this works only with high glossy photos), you do not have to see your fingerprints on the photo when you hold it against the light. When you see your fingerprints like on glass, the photos are not wartime. Also is one of the photos bend? If yes, the bend has to be "broken", like harder carton wehen you bent it. On newer photos you see only the bend, but the paper is not "broken"

                              Best wishes
