Simon,
The second document is surely for having his name on the Honour Roll list (He is wearing the clasp).
The first document is probably the Anerkennungsurkunde (awarded 1322 times).
Here's an interesting quote by Stijn David on this subject:

You are quit right that there are lists available concerning both Honour roll ( including clasp ) and the Anerkennungsurkunde !!!!!.
I think the book written by Horst Scheibert " Die Inhaber der Ehrenblatt- Spange des Heeres und der Waffen SS " contains all Honour roll clasp wearers => 4556 times awarded.( according to Manfred Dörr only 4272 times awarded ?????)
And the book written by Manfred Dörr " Die Inhaber der Anerkennungsurkunde Des Obdh 1941 - 1945 " contains all the ( should we say wearers ?? ) off the AU. => only 1322 times awarded
So the Anerkennungsurkunde ( AU ) is rarer than the Honour roll clasp award document ( as stated before both are exact the same in appearance , and the only way to find out if a person did receive the Honour roll or the AU is to look at these award lists.
Greetings,
Robert

The Ehrenblattspange he received 2 months after the 2nd Anerkennung
I have a copy of the list.
He was 1 of the highest decorated in the 20. Infanterie Division.
Roger
Then he must have received one more document similar to the Anerkennung(s) for being on the Honour Roll list.
