"These are part of s large set of documents to an Obermaat from the Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, raging from the early 1930s through to him working as a kirchen cleaner on a US Army base in occupied Germany after the war, and including all his wife's documents and even letters from his two brothers serving at Stalingrad.

Shown here are his DLV membership card, Arbeitsfront card, RAD Ausweiss, SA Sportsbardge Award Ausweiss, DRL Sportsbadge book, letter which accompanied the DRL award, KDF Swimming Certificate, EK2, EK1, High Seas Fleet Badge, and Wound Badge Docs, plus his Soldbuch."

What unit was he in for the Feldpost number on that wound badge document?

I have seen much smaller (and photoless) documents to "Hipper" survivors: why was there such a delay in making those awards?

Presumably the surviving former crewmen had been dispersed all over the Kriegsmarine--many were possibly subsequently killed or taken prisoner before the late paperwork even got processed.

Why weren't they all given their EKs and Fleet Badge etc a month or so after the sinking?

Are you not confusing Hipper with Blücher. Hipper was never sunk. She was bombed beyond repair whilst sitting in dock in Kiel in April 1945.

Edel, by then, was serving with 2 Geleitflotille, specifically on the G102.
He was wounded three times and his Soldbuch also shows pay issues by the SS Lazarett.

I also have a High Seas Fleet-Soldbuch set from the Blücher.
