I've bought this photo at Niemann's sale more than a year ago. This photo is autographed but it's hard to see.

Does any of you guys can tell for sure who that guy is ?

Günther Pfeffer ?

Thank you guys for your help. As you've been able to identify the U-boat, I've been searching the web for more informations. Don't you think this guy could be Günther Pfeffer ? I've got the feeling that the autograph on the photo shows Gunther something.

Indeed, these two pictures are strangely similar

I found a photo of Pfeffer in Mühlbauer's autobigraphy and he had a "slim" beard as opposed to a "bushy" beard in the first photo.....but of course that could depend on when it was taken.

I can't make out the signature but either way it would appear to start with a G.....Hans-Gerold....did he sign it without Hans!?!?!?

Still looking for a Pfeffer signature...I have one somewhere!

Ian is right, your man did sign here, and with his full name : Günther Pfeffer.


Hans-Gerold Hauber was IWO on U 170 and took over command when Pfeffer left.
