    Now I know I'm being a pest!
Pretty good closeup but I can't make out the first few dates that are obscured by the glare...
    One more?
    Regards,

        Great, Dion. Thanks very much!
This is fascinating to me since my Dad was on that very voyage, and here you have the exact itinerary with dates!
I can now correlate the dates with the photos in his album, although there are still a few of my Dad's photos from this album I can't place.
        For example:

Yep, Dave gave up I think. Now, if you could find these for any of the German warships, like Tirpitz, it would be quite something to see. These could be quite ornate by the way, but also required the Gunners Mates to polish them with some frequency.

This is a 15" tampion from Hood. It is on display at the Palace Museum, Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania. The museum is a former palace of the Sultans who once ruled Zanzibar. In January 1924, Hood visited Zanzibar during the Empire Cruise of The Special Service Squadron. Sultan Khalifa Bin Harud visited the ship and entertained officials. This tampion was most likely presented to him at that time. This photo is courtesy of Ian MacDonald of British Columbia, Canada.

I bet it was not easy getting a replacement. Usually, a ship did not carry extra tampions.

Any photos out there of the main gun tampions of German heavy ships? Of course there are, but nice to see some posted if anybody has the time.

                      Put a value on this!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another famous British ship--Royal Oak, and one of her tampions. I thought you might like to know that there is a tampion from Royal Oak on display at Charlestown Museum in Cornwall.

Royal Oak was sunk by U-47 as is well known.

The simple tampion in the Graf Spee photo is from a secondary battery. Only the main batteries usually had the ornate examples. However, on a destroyer, you could encounter brass tampions on their main guns which looked better than the Graf Spee example.

Sometimes the brass was painted over or the tampion was a cheap affair. I like the brass examples no matter the caliber of naval gun. Doubtful if they would be allowed to tarnish however.

Very nice photographic history of a ship which would within a few years of these images become become a well known name.

                              Really nice
