I have not seen this with the two types of badges never on a soldier.

All i can think of is,as a driver he was transferred at some time. But would he wear both? Someone will be able to answer & put me straight. Stewy

Perhaps he started as a grenadier and than later he has been a driver.

I don't think it is a numbered GAB, the badge looks too small.

Nice portrait indeed. He does not have a numbered GAB though the medals/badges he has are EK2, IAB, SWB, DRL Sprots Badge, Drivers badge and the Eastern Front medal.
