group photo, any ideas

I got this recently from ebay, and It's a tropical heer group, only one with an eagle visible, as their in shirts, thats right and most without boards.

There is a number on a board in the left of the picture, does anyone know what this means?

It reads A643. I thought pow, but its a german postcard, so I don't know, maybe a unit designation?

My guess would be POW in USA.
Look at the tar paper building in the background.
