Poteau Ambush, 1944. Yes they are from the Battle of the Bulge. The battle is quite "famous" - or at least many people have seen these series of photographs. The last one is from the same series.

Great book that one.

Basically all of these shots were stagged long after the area was secure. I have seen some of the complete contact sheets for this sceen actually there are some rather funny contridions in them.

In the first shot if you look in the background you can see a man standing (another PK photographer taking some other famous shots) he is usually wiped out in most of the german 'published' version of the phots.


the next two shots are funny as well as the same man is leading is troops forward from left to right and in the next shot he is leading them forward right to left???

The other shots in the sheet show how the PK men relighting the fire on the M3 at least 3 three times and then you can also see a prop man setting up the famous picture of Peiper at the cross roads.

And mulitple shots of the SS crossing the road with the AT gun in the backgound (in both directions)

I think all of these shots can now be found on the bundesarchiv some place,

What kind of Zeltbahn does this fellow wear on his Koppeltragegestell, is it Oak Leaf?


Also, is this Soldat wearing a Iron Cross Second class ribbon on his second front button?
The medal above his left pocket is clearly a close combat clasp(bronze?) but what medal is he wearing on the actual pocket, it looks like the Infantry Assault badge.

After watching at the few seconds these guys came in view countless of times, i concluded the Soldat with the captured raincoat has no ribbon on his uniform and only wears the Infantry Assault badge on his left pocket. I am unable to figure out which type of Zeltbahn the other Soldat has strapped to his Y-belt.
I am making a representation of these Soldaten in scale 1/6th, as you can imagine, all these details are important to make an accurate, historical representation. Any input is welcomed!

You really should buy the ATB book, it would answer many of your questions.

I am up to speed when it comes to medals it is just that i am unable to see the medals and ribbons you described on this Soldat other than those i stated.
