    The symbol on the fender looks like a balloon with a dog tethered to it?

    Have you seen this unit emblem before?

    Cheers

    Larry, this quite well known photo is from either le.Geb.Beob.Abt.18 or 38 in Finland.

              Does unit stamp 4/Bb.4 ....stand for the 4 Balloon battery?

                  Thanks everyone for his contribution to the subject, I appreciate it!

                  I have something from Beobachtungs-Abteilung 4 too. Lewis, it does. Beobachtungs-Abteilungen are Artillerist, so their companies are called Batterie.

                    Thanks guys.

                    So is there any way to tell for definate which battalion type it would be. I found this:

                    Ballon.Bttr. = artillery balloon battalion

                    Bau.Btl. = construction battalion.

                    Beob.Abt. = artillery observation battalion

                    So would Bb stand for Ballon.Bttr, or even Bau.Btl?

                    thanks

                      Is 4./Bb.4 exactly as it appears on the stamp? I assume we're talking of a round eagle and swastika stamp? what is the stamp on?

                      from what you've written i'd tend to go with 4 Kompanie, Bau Bataillon 4

                      But it could also mean 4 Batterie, Beobachtungs Abteilung 4

                        No its not a round eagle stamp, its a unit stamp in a waffenrock. I put a link to it on page 1.

                        Heres a link to the unit stamping picture itself:

                          Hi guys,

                          I am just curious, is this photo showing the NSKK Balloon Badge (The guy up front - below the WWI WD and next to the WWI Prussian Commemorative Pilot Badge? Also if anyone can ID for me the "neck award" and the award below the Gallipoli Star, I would very much appreciate it...

                          Thanks,

                          Mark

                            Hello All,
                            As always, very nice pictures.
                            Akira, some nice color shots.

                            Is it my eyes, or does the guy in picture 2, have a trade
                            patch on his left sleeve? It looks like a balllon with a black
                            border. But prehaps a leaf or blemish on the picture.

                            Cheers,
                            John.

                              I would have to agree not the Balloon badge. I only wish it was that would be the find of this century.

                              It is the the NSFK badge not NSSK.

                              In the big photo above that looks like the DLV Balloon badge and the other one looks like the Rider Instructors' Badge (NSRK) or a very long shot the 'Colonial Badge' he is the right age for hat one as well

                              The one around the neck I have no-idea but it could be some sort or 'Club' badge to denote that he is a judge or club president or alike

                              Still great photos you do not see that badge very often

                                Thanks for the awards ID...

                                It definitely looks like the NSFK Badge for Free Balloon Pilots... As for the other award, can it possibly be the KuK Air Force Pilot Badge or the KuK ARMY FIELD PILOT BADGE? The shape looks very much correct.
