So, the quilted version was NOT Luftwaffe issue, but a variation on the early mouse grey version of the reversible uniform.

Correct. A rare example of a first model quilted Winterjacke is featured in my book. This one has the typical woollen exterior, opposed to the canvas exterior of subsequent versions.
