Yes Stewy. I'm not sure but maybe it is French Char.

Hi Guys:

This same vehicle, same photo as well, was posted a long time ago on the AHF site for identification and as far as I know without success.

I never posted my thoughts there but I will here.

The closest I can come to is a Char B1 or B1 bis with the photo taken from the rear of the vehicle. The tarp may be covering battle damage to the turret or the turret is merely removed for maintenence or some other reason.

The only identification point that still bothers me is the small rollers at the bottom of the track, that does not appear on any photos I have seen of the Char B1.

My theory here is that there may have been some sort of protection plate bolted over these rollers when the tank was in use and it has been removed here for some reason or other.

I think that it is the Krupp prototype for the Grosstraktor from the 1920's.

That is what came to mind to me as well. Didn't some of the first pre-war panzer regiments have them as displays at their barracks?
