Infanterie-Regiment (mot) Großdeutschland was formed 12 June 1939 by renaming the Wachregiment Berlin. It was redesignated Infanterie-Regiment Großdeutschland 1 in April 1942 and assigned to the Infanterie-Division (mot) Großdeutschland.

The EK1 was probably awarded in the Spring of 1942. Awards could take many months at times - especially if he was wounded.

I like these docs. I have an EK2 doc awrded on the same day. The details match perfectly. I would imagine these EK2 docs were awarded for the fighting around Konotop, during Panzerarmee 2's drive east of Kiev, as part of Hitler's Ukraine initiative.
