trebes, that post was a bit back. I had not located that image but Auxerre puts the airfield in central France during October 1940, would the airfield be so far off the coast during the battle of britain and destroyed planes on the airfield? regards graeme

trebes, thanks for your help. I know the letters are long and hard to read but attached is the letter Karl wrote during what I believe is a visit to France in October 1940. This may help, again only after summary not word for word, thanks graeme

I really can't judge these implications, I see your point and maybe you are right, but the writing, especially the distinctive "x" suggests the reading "Auxerre". One could argue though, it reads "Auxerne", but there is no such a place.

It's a letter to his parents and his sister Gitti who have sent him a birthday letter, which arrived the day before right in time. They should not send any parcels to him, especially nothing of value. Perhaps his sister will be transferred to Austria.
They live a quiet life (in France), some time ago they even were in Paris. The letters addressed to his old army postal code did not arrive and he now understands why.
He is now at full age (which was 21 at that time).

Anything of this service on Kreta or his military action if mentioned would be of interest. thanks for any help regards graeme
Nothing of interest, just holiday plans.
