          Hi guys,

          I'm having a difficult time deciphering the handwriting on the back of this photo out of my grandpa's photo album. If someone could help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks guys.

            First one:

            Arthur ist in der ersten Reihe
            der vierte, ich denke Ihr werdet
            ihn wohl heraus finden. Grüßt
            Fräulein Elisabeth Stamm
            von ihm herzlichst mit.
            Sie kennt ihn auch.

            Second one:

            Will euch noch mitteilen
            dass es nach der Umgemein-
            dung nicht mehr Kray b.
            Essen heißt, sondern ein-
            fach Essen Kray oder
            Essen Schoenebeck oder
            Essen Katernberg u.s.w.

                  Thanks Mac. I understand the first one but what is the second one really saying? My German comprehension is limited. I'm trying to locate where the building is located at on the photo (or whether it still exists today). What is Umgemein-dung? I'm assuming something undesirable hence the second word.

                  Thanks much.

                    No Problem:

                    Arthur is in the first row the 4th. I think you will find him. Please say lovely greetings to Ms Elisabeth Stamm from him. She knows him too.

                    I also want to let you know, that after the changes in the district it is not calles Kray by Essen any longer, but simply Essen Kray, Essen Schonebeck or Essen Katersberg and so on

                    Umgemeindung means:
                    Changes in the rural district... the town was renamed

                      Sorry I forgot:
                      The minus in the word just says, that the word was split in the upper line and goes on in the second line...
                      I wrote it as it is standing on the photo

                      Unfortunately I can`t help with locating the building. Kray by Essen would be possible...

                            Also, I need help knowing what A F L 41592 means.

                            Could the 41592 be a field post number?
                            Thanks

                                Possibly Armee Feld Lazarett 4/592 (just theorizing here....). I don't think that's a "1", I'm pretty sure it's a "/".

                                EDIT: Ha! Check out the "todesort' on this link: http://www.kriegstote.org/cgi-bin/ba...tuell&Id=42083 (I know this isn't your guy, but I googled "Feld Lazarett 4/592", and that (among other hits) came up.

                                EDIT #2: From this link: http://www.historicalwarmilitariafor...%C3%9Fe/page-5 , post #45 by JMark (who I believe is also on WAF here ):
                                Amazingly, just now, while looking for something else, I came across a list of German hospitals near Stalingrad on 27.11.1942. I'll post them here as they may be of some use to someone else in the future (all spellings in German, eg. Morosowskaja, not Morozovskaya):
                                Armee-San.-Kp. 2/542 as an HVP in Jarmakoff (60km north of Morosowskaja);
                                Armee-Feldlaz. 2/542 in Nowo-Tscherkassk;
                                Armee-Feldlaz. 4/592 in Ssulin;
                                Armee-Feldlaz. 608 in Lichoj;
