              Hi all,
Researching a photo group to a KIA Panzer member and his place of death seems to be written as Ilenensee? I presumed this was in the Eastern Front, but can't find it when googled. Can anyone help please?
              Thanks.

The place is called "Ilmensee" and the soldier KIA 21.11.42 was Werner Egger.

Thanks. Is that where he was from ( home) or where he was KIA?

The text says " gef. 21.11.42 am Ilmensee" that means he was KIA - "gef.(allen)" near the Ilmensee.
                      His hometown is not given.

I wonder what happened for him to be KIA in Germany in 1942?

Ilmensee (spelled with one " l ") is not a community in Germany - It is a lake near Staraja Russa (vicinity of Demjansk)

                              Thanks naxos.

I thought the entry meant "Illmensee" and there would be mistake in writing (missing one letter "l" ).

I did not know the Ilmensee in Russia but now I found that lake.
