Liebe Familie Thomas,
die besten Grüße aus Bromberg sendet Euer Onkel Oskar Thommeler (?). Bin zur Zeit wieder ganz groß in meinem Elemet. Am gestrigen Sonntag ging ich abermals beim hiesigen Wanderpreisschießen mit 115 Ringen (10 Schuß) als bester Schütze durchs Ziel.
Wenn der Krieg noch lange dauert, dann muß ich meine Schießkunst wohl auch noch praktisch verwerten müssen.

Among the listed KIA soldiers in the Volksbund list I found one Max Eder who was KIA 29 Aug 1942 in France. He was a "Flieger":

I found a Generalmajor of the German Luftwaffe named Josef Pultar (*1884 + 1949).

I think the writer - on the back of the photo - meant him and he only did not exactly know how to write his correct family name. It could be so.

Bernd, you're probably right about that thanks. Gerdan, you're probably right about why the general's name was misspelled. I suppose he was the commanding officer for the area of France where Eder was killed in and thus felt obligated to attend the funeral or perhaps he knew Eder personally.
