      Makes much more sense now, exactly what I was looking for ,The font is heavy gothic and the t looked like an i to me but alten is correct .The phrase was below mention of presentation of a honor dagger to SS Hauptsturmführer Ludwig Deeg confirming that he is as you say 'carrier of the ancle of the old guard'.

                In general, the first few lines give a rough location of a (or "the") soldier's grave, and the last few lines describe the gravesite itself. A fellow soldier took a photo of it.
