      Brandenbergers?

      Hello,
Picked this photo out of a box at a fleamarket in Germany. I believe they are German special operations troops dressed as Russians for a prisoner snatch operation. The escorting soldiers are smiling and armed. Note the Russian helmet slung in the belt of the front right guard. The photo is on German period film and it appears that the word "Truppen!" is written on the back though I am not 100% on the correct spelling since it is in old German. I want to thank Akira for posting this for me as I feel its a very interesting photo worthy of speculation.

Hi Eric, welcome to the forum! Interesting photo. It does appear to show a prisoner being escourted. But if the guards are German, well that is impossible to say?
But I can tell you that the uniforms shown are the 1935 pattern. These were replaced by the 1943 pattern (with stand collar & shoulder boards) by mid 1943 in most frontline units. So I would date the photo as being no later than late summer 1943. The uniforms appear to be the cotton summer issue.
Hope this adds a little more detail?
        Cheers, Ade.
