I don't think these are their names.

It's describing the location of the airfield where the picture was taken.

The man on the left is an SS pilot...................probably both of them are the SS aircraft escorts allocated to Goering in 1933-34.

Quite right. The location seems to be Holtenau Airfield (probably Kiel) and the man on the left is a SS NCO whilst the man on the right is a SS officer.

Why can't I remove the pics I posted? The reason I want to is beacause I got the information I needed on the photos.

The forum policy has changed - no editing of posts after 10 minutes

That is an appalling change. It removes the right of an owner to post and remove his/her own images. This will certainly make me think twice about posting photos on this forum and I'm sure I'm not alone. A retrograde step....awful decision.

I agree completely, but I guess rather than lengthen this thread it's better to discuss this on the various threads in the Collector's Community where the debate rages on...

So you would use the forum for your own selfish reasons and then delete the pics and say screw everyone else. Definately not in the spirit of the forum.

                        Don,
I think that's taking it a little too far. He just wanted to find out some information, but didn't want to share his photos with all and sundry. Not really that much difference from this post......

                        thanks in advance.
There's nothing wrong with that and it remains in the spirit of any forum.....an exchange of ideas and information. Are you suggesting he has to pay a "price" for getting information? He has every right to use his photos as he sees fit, as we all do. Speaking as someone with previous experience of having their photos lifted from a forum, I know where he is coming from.
There was just such a discussion on AHF some years back and the result was a reasonable compromise. Anyone could edit their own posts for a week and then could request the subsequent deletion of images at any time from a moderator. Reasonable, I'd say, and a much better solution than the Draconian 10 minute rule introduced here. Whether you like it or not, the bottom line should be that the owner of a photo is just that, the owner, and if he/she no longer wishes to share it for any reason then they should have the right to delete it and we should not make them feel guilty for doing so. That is something that is not in the spirit of any forum.

Not quite the same imo. I was asking for technical data beyond pics. There are plenty of pics for the badges I'm studying. On the other hand, posting something, getting the info and then immediately deleting the pic shows a more callous approach to collecting. I will just ignore people like this in the future. Why waste time and effort with people that don't want to share?

We'll have to disagree on this because I believe the circumstances are similar, just different methods. I for one will always help others with info if I can, whether it be by PM (as apparently condoned by you) or by open forum, but I will reserve the right to do what I like with photos for which I have paid and now own.
                            Max.

Nothing wrong with talking via PM. Some members here prefer it that way and I respect that. But when someone posts something openly how many responses would it get if they knew it would be deleted once the poster was satisfied? Its about give and take. Perhaps the dynamics of badge/medal collecting is a little different than photo/paper items.
