    Identify this SS man

    Can anybody identify this SS-Oberführer?
I noticed that the SS man behind the Oberfuehrer is wearing a pilots badge. Were there many SS men that wore a pilots badge?

    Is this image known?
    Thanks.

I'll take a guess and say Hans Baur

Yes, this is a known image. As Mark Yerger has already said, the Oberführer is Hans Baur, Hitler's personal pilot. Don't know who the other officer is.

Not just a holder of Pilot's Badges from WWI and the Third Reich, Baur was even one of the recipients of a highly prestigious honor award, the Golden Pilot/Observer Badge with Diamonds, as were three other known SS leaders: Heinrich Himmler, Sepp Dietrich and Otto Skorzeny.

No idea on the actual number of SS men authorized to wear an "ordinary" pilot's badge, but there would have been a few who qualified for it while on temporary or previous assignment to the Luftwaffe, like Reinhard Heydrich who actually flew missions for the Luftwaffe early in the war.
There were also at least a few spotter plane pilots for Waffen-SS divisions.

        Thanks for the usefull information.
The image is in a (luftwaffe) photobook i acquired some time ago.
The image is printed on Mimosa paper, like a postcard.

There are some more pictures of Rommel, Raeder, Hitler, Goring, v.Rundstedt and Knight Cross wearers. etc.
Some pictures are on Mimosa some on Velox and some unmarked.
I will scan some pictures next week and post them.

        Thanks again.

        KR,
        Rik
