At the time , it would have been a fountain pen , as it seems it is, it fluctuated on the flow, but I would say most likely may be, but like any autograph of really famous people that has value ...you need to overlay it with several different originals to really be sure. Id say if you got it in a post card box for a buck or two, that also shows it wasnt someone trying to capitalise on the name.
What was the circumstances of how you bought it? Cheap or expensive? I personally like it, and he did give autographs to many in his time, as he was a popular war hero.

I would be very wary of this autograph.

Given the high value of v. Richtoffen, you have to be skeptical. I don't know his signature but there are many benchmarks on the net. I wouldn't buy it.

This is the kind of post that does not help anyone. If you do not know anything about Richtoffen's signature whay are you commenting on this thread?
As far as the signature above I believe it is a good one from these images. Like all signatures a comprehensive study in hand would be necessary for an item of this value, but from these pictures I do not see any red flags.

Perhaps I should have been more explicit then....the signature is not well defined and given that I have regularly seen Richtoffen go for >$3,000 US, it has to be considered a forgery risk. As such, I would be looking for a better and more defined example or an example with excellent provenance so I was sure of authenticity. I have seen such examples and was suggesting that a search of the net for such benchmarking examples was a good idea. If you do not think that suggestion is helpful, you are welcome to ignore it.

Finally - if its the one I think it is, the asking price seems ludicously low - if the price is too low then buyer beware.

I agree that ALL of these signatures of famous people are forgeries risk. I also agree that prices start at better than 3K for one of these so one can never be too careful.
