    Oberkommand der Wehrmacht envolope

    fellow forum members,

Just picked up an envelope at a local store. It was sent to a town near me from germany. On the back of the envolope it has a kind of tape that reads "Oberkommand der Whrmacht" It also has an eagle clurching a swastika under this print. I will try to get some pictures tonight. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!

Śounds like a POW letter that has been checked by the censors.

Just one more thing it should have the word Geƶffnet on the tape as well.

      For example:-

        David and fellow members,

Here are some pictures of the envelope. It does have that Geoffnet word, but I am counting on you to tell me about it!. They are on the link below. Thanks to anyone who knows anything about this!

So its not a POW letter, its just a standard letter sent from Ostmark (Austria). Cant quite work out the full address. Like I said it has been opened by the censors and then resealed.

The sender of the letter is located in Austria "Ostmark". It is a lady who sent the letter to the USA. As the letter was sent to the USA during the war it has to be consored before by the censor of the German Army.

Also interesting is that this letter was an answer of an other letter which arrived 8. January ("JƤnner") 1941 and which was answered by the lady 22 Jan 1941.

Thank you both for your help finding out what this is. I really appreciate it. Does it have any value? Just wondering. Thanks again!

My brother who is an avid stamp collector has a look at it and though interesting in that it made it to the states after war was declared the stamp is damaged and is of a very common type to nobody of interest. It would be 5~10$ max.

If it was a Hitler stamp or other Nazi type from 15~30$

Thanks. I have a few Hitler Heads in my collection, but I have not got them on here yet. I appreciate the response.
Do you know about the tape with the swastika on it (value wise)?

                  Thanks

Not too sure about the US market but here in Europe the extra censor tape might add an extra euro if your lucky. These types of envelope are very common. Does it contain the letter too?

No, I do not have the letter. It would be interesting to see though.

Once one gets a little perspective on the numbers one can see why there is not a great deal of value in them because of the large number of them.

Every letter that was leaving Germany after the war started should have the censor stamp on it. It was the big exception to find one without the stamp and that would raise it value by at least twice.

I see. Thank you. At least it is not a reproduction. It is just a neat piece, even if it does not have much value.
