The caption in the first picture seems to read: Nach einen feind-...., Russ. 43", which translates as After an enemy ...- I presuma attack or something like that, although the word is not "Angriff". What is he wearing as coat?

            - 2) Diggin' in is also an option. Photograph paper marks can and will clear this out
-3), France, by the looks of it
-4) No clue whatsoever on the caption. Will have to practice Sutterlin and such.
-5) Idem ditto as 2, photo-paper marks can bring clearity.

            Regards,
            Vincent S.

              Thanks

The back of photo 2 is full with the backing of a photo album, can't remove it.
And on the back of photo 5 is nothing written, no paper mark.. nothing.

No need to thank me, it's my pleasure to help fellow collectors in any way I can.
Picture 5 has a good chance of being period.

Still find it interesting that we both have a picture of the same soldier, remember ?.

Sure, here it is. Was planning on using it in my book, but found better pictures.
If you're ever going to sell yours, feel free to drop me a line. It's a great shot of a Tuchmantel 42 in wear!

Well, if you ever got a nice picture with M44 tunic on it, or a nice '44-'45 picture..

                      And mine:

Sure, here is one: (Writing on the back appears to says Jänner '45 (might also be 44, but I guess it's '45)- Jänner is Austrian/ Swiss for January, so I presume the soldier was from that area? Truely a real Aryian soldier, rushed into service...

I simply can not tell from the visible parts of his jacket. Rectangular pocket flaps, so must either be a Feldbluse 43 or 44. Had another look at the writing on the rear, and I am fairly certain of it that it reads 'Jänner '45".

I'd go for a rubbish pit or latrine, i don't think it's ment as a trench\ air raid trench etc. as it's not long enough.
