Hi all!
I wanted to share this document sent to the wife of a soldier of the III./229 Jäger Regiment, 13. Kompanie in Februar 1944.
The letter is stating that
"The service is sending you enclosed the wound badge in black, awarded to your husband by the commander of III./229."
What strikes to me, is the fact that the unit number is clearly stated in a Feldpost letter. Was that something common, since Feldpost numbers were supposed to replace these numbers for security purposes?
The second thing that I find remarkable is the fact that although the Regiment was occupied with heavy defensive and counterattacking fighting in the area of Winniza from January till March 1944, the Company is sending back to the wife of a soldier a wound badge in black. Maybe posthumously awarded? I would really like to have some opinions on this.
Tried to make some research on the name (just the surname), but it's quite a common one and it appears several times, in different ranks for the whole regiment, not being able to limit it just to the 13. Kompanie.
Cheers, Giorgos
