Michael WITTMANN autograph - Original ?

Dear forum members!

Here an autograph of Michael Wittmann which was recently offered to me.
I was wondering what your opinions are as to the originality?

Does anyone have a confirmed original on a formal, offical piece of document to compare to? And I don't mean the generic signed blank Hitler-Jungen pieces?

These kind of signature have been going at EUR 1,000.-- a piece on recent auctions at Andreas-Thies.com (which of course has nothing to do with originality).

Markus,
Be very careful with Wittmann signed pieces. There are a large number of forged examples on the market, many the work of a prolific forger from Germany. I have seen some sold unwittingly as originals by respected dealers and auction houses.

Is this a 6x9 photo taken from a photo album with a "Wittmann" signature? Aside from whether or not it is him, why would his signature be on such a photo anyway? Seems like a stretch.

I think it is fair to say that the faker(s) have unwittingly engineered a market that no longer bears any trust or confidence in Wittmann signatures. The sheer amount of clipped/clipping style signed pieces on either a blank piece of paper or with an image attached is staggering.

As for the photo at the start of this thread, it 'might' be Wittmann, and equally it 'might' not be. Either way, it is certainly the product of doubt in regards to the signature for sure.
