I can't help you, but that is a pretty funny picture with such a large cross. I'm also curious about that sword the man in the foreground seems to be holding.

        Alan,

I think this is SS-Hastuf. Werner Poetschke, Chef 1./SS-Pz.Rgt. 1, LSSAH. Awarded the Knights Cross on 4 June 1944, though as you stated this is probably when it was announced. I could swear I have seen a frontal view with Poetschke standing with his hands in his pockets and that thing hanging around his neck, but I couldn't find it.

        Best,
        Greg

I think it can be Friedrich Holzer , who also was Hstuf. when awarded th KC.

Here's another one of Holzer , he's on the right , the Off. with the KC has also not much hair.

                      Photo of Poetschke with "oakleaves"

Greg, here is a copy of the picture of Poeschke that you remembered. This photo comes from Agte's "PEIPER". I think that my picture does look a bit like Poeschke.

                        Hi Alan-
Yes, that is a great photo of Poetschke, taken after his announcement of the EL. Though the photo in question is definitely not Poetschke though, the hair really gives its away. Poetschke's hairline hadn't receded this much, nor did he have the sides cropped. His was slicked back all the way.

                        I agree with Holzer...

                          Alan,

That's the photo I was thinking of, I couldn't find it in Agte's "Peiper" or any place else. But clearly this isn't the same croass as in the photo you showed, and I agree with Hardigan and John - it's not Poetschke.

                          Best,
