Heeres-Steuermann on horses?

Hi,

As I was going trough my small photograph collection I noted something quite weird.
If I'm not mistaken, two of the soldiers in this picture are wearing the Heeres-Steuermann abzeichen, although they're riding horses... ?
Is this possible?

Yes that is possible and also not so unusual. Also units which needed such specialists were mobile by horses, bicycles etc...
