Bergmann and his two man crew were shot down on a ground strafing op by 604 sq Mossie piloted by F/Lt. John Surman. US troops recovered the 3 bodies from the crash site near St. James , two were ID'd as the crewmembers while it was not till 1956 that Bergmann remains could be positively ID'd. All 3 NF crewmembers are buried at Marigny, Fr.

                Hello Andre

my sources come from several areas, official NJG crew losses, Theo Boitens NJWD's volume 2, personal research into the NJG for over 40 years, with many interviews of former Nachtjäger. Had a cousin who was Gruppenkommandeur of II./NJG 5 before his untimely death in December of 43... Hans Baer

Erich ~ by the way a beautiful grouping in honor of Herr Bergmann.

The Mossie pilot was on a sweep in the Cherborg area.
