Thanks, Robin, but do these actually say she ran the sub-camp?
    Regards,
    Max.

      Hello Max.
According to this information on the USHMM site, she was in charge of the small camp. (Probably better described as a work detachment, though, IMHO).
      Cheers,
      Robin.

The Dachau subcamp at München-Schwabing was the first subcamp where concentration camp prisoners were permanently used as a labor force outside the main concentration camp. Unlike most of the later subcamps which were constructed, organized, and managed by the SS Business Administration Main Office (WVHA) and the Dachau camp commandant, this subcamp's construction, administration, and organization was in the hands of Eleonore Baur, also known as Schwester Pia (Sister Pia). [Editor's note: This subcamp was also smaller than most others, and is included here as a representative case for instances in which prisoners were used by individuals or small organizations.]

        Robin,
Very interesting reading. I agree that it was probably more aptly described as a work detail. I just find it hard to accept that a sub-camp of Dachau would have been constructed, organised and administered by an ageing nurse. Oswald Pohl and his deputy, Richard Glücks, would never have given up autonomy over Dachau prisoners. No, if anything, this is either propaganda or post-war interpretation.
        Max.

There was also a thread on the Axis History Forum that said she was a brothel-keeper during the war! Something about 'chief bitch in a knocking-shop'.

There were literally thousands of 'sub-camps'. The KZ lager system supplied labor for many different reasons. Why is it hard to believe that a nun(?) would try to get some prisoners out of the larger camps and use them in a productive manner.
