This is a nice set that I recently acquired on a local show here in Holland. It is a neat set comprising of two documents that belonged to a Dutch national and volunteer in the ‘Kriegsmarine': maybe not that schocking to some (as a similar set that belonged to a Dutch volunteer in the Waffen-SS) but IMO even more rare!
There were only a handful of Dutchmen that served in the German Navy esp. if compared to the estimated 10.000 that served in the Waffen-SS! The set comprises of two documents (IC 2<SUP>nd</SUP> class and Black Wound badge) awarded to the Dutch national and ‘Matrosen Obergefreiten’ Tjebbo de Groot (very Dutch name by the way!).<O</O

Of additional interest is the fact that de Groot jotted down (on one of the backs) his military career and interesting details are to be seen: he served for example in the (important!) Navy haven of ‘<?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:City><ST1Den Helder</ST1</st1:City>’ and was trained in ‘Antwerpen’ <st1:country-region><ST1Belgium</ST1</st1:country-region>! The IC document is signed by Admiral Kleikamp (who was the highest Navy commander in <st1:City><ST1Holland </ST1</st1:City>for most of the war-years! )

I sometimes wonder how many of the Dutchmen got an IC2? It cannot be that many! In any case I deem it a very nice set that will surely remain in my collection…..
