KM Kampfgruppe Thiele

Just recently I got this set of papers belonging to a soldier who was with Kampfgruppe Thiele taking part in the defensive actions in the Ostsee.

Originally been a member of the NSFK he received glider training and was proposed to become a pilot with the LW.How he made it to the KM instead is not documented.

A certificate to declare him part of the troops at sea

One of the sad letters to inform a relative had died

Received the IC 2nd class

A copy of his original documents that lists the ships he was with

Very interesting, i haven't seen a grouping to a member of the luftwaffe's luftnachrichtentruppe serving onboard ships of the KM. A pity you don't have a photo of him in uniform with his decorations.

VP5901 and VP5907 were Vorpostenboote belonging to the 59 VP-flottille based in Norway, however these two boats were detached from the rest of the flottilla on the 7 Aug.44 for duty with the 3 sicherungs division.

Thanks a lot for this info Simon! That indeed is interesting and makes sense with his starting out as NSFK member.I was wondering the whole time why he would have been drafted by the KM,but now it is quite clear.On one of the copies of his original docs it is said he was securing the flottila from air-raids.

I have not inquired whether might be a picture of the man wearing awards,I will give that a try one of these days.
