    This Pilot is...

    Hi Ed,

This is one of the greatest fighter aces of the Luftwaffe: Oberstleutnant HANS PHILIPP (born on 17.03.1917 in Meissen/Sachsen and Killed in Action on 08.10.1943 in Nordhorn/Holland). He shot down 206 enemy planes (178 in East Front and 28 in West) during around 500 combat missions, and he was the second flier to achieve the "200th victory" in History. His awards were:

    Ehrenpokal - 28.09.1940.
    Knight´s Cross - 22.10.1940 for 20 victories as Oberleutnant.
    Oakleaves (n. 33) - 24.08.1941 for 62 victories as Oberleutnant.
    Swords (n. 8) - 13.03.1942 for 86 victories as Hauptmann and Kommandeur of I/JG 54 "Grünherz".
    German Cross - 29.06.1942.

His 100th victory was achieved on 31.03.1942 (4th pilot to do it so) and his 150th on 14.01.1943. He fell as Oberstleutnant and Kommodore of JG 1 while fighting the 8th US Air Force.

Hope it hepls you a little bit.

    Regards,

    Douglas.
