German Government Organization Help

I have a document signed by Herman Goring for a Hans Rehder who was promoted from a Regierungsoberinspecktor to Regierungsamtmann in Berlin in 1943. What are these titles? Are they Police, Administrative and what would his job/responcibility have been?

Hi Charlie,

these ranks (Regierungs-Inspektor, R-OberinspektorRegierungsamtmann) are still existing today. This are ranks in the civil service (middle grade).
Amtmann = senior clerc.

Would this gentlemen be part of the Police force, or basically a civil service clerk? How was the german government set-up? I have included a link to his service record below. Any information is helpful. Did he wear a civil uniform during the War?

Gerdan answered your question quite well. He was a civil service employee of the Preußisches Staatsministerium from 1938 to 1945. He wore a plain black or dark blue suit, tie, black shoes, fedora and a 3-pointed hanky tucked into the jacket pocket. Oh, and he carried an umbrella. If you Google "Preußisches Staatsministerium", you will very quickly know more about it than I do. As Gerdan clearly implied, those are not police ranks.
