Serving Platter

Hi Frank- I also have a sterling silver serving platter- it is marked with a D R with the eagle in between and stamped ALPAKA 244 on the back- I will attach a photo- maybe you or someone else may have more info on this what I would call an unusual item.

Thx Jeff

Hello
DR is often considered as belonging to the Das Reich division but most of time this 2 letters just mean Deutsche Reichsbahn (spelling?) which means German Railways

Frank,

"St. Qu." = probably "Stab Quartier", i.e. "staff headquarters" or simply "headquarters".

Kräubel would be pronounced "Kroibel".

Regarding values, I have a theory that SS-related items are "on the rise", value-wise. I could cite several reasons for this but the most likely, of course, is that demand for SS-related items is high at the moment - and this trend shows no sign of letting up. The people paying a premium for SS objects are either "dedicated" SS collectors or, perhaps, those "rumoured" to be gathering this stuff up for the melting pot or trash bin. In that regard, you really should be careful about who you sell these objects to. "Screening" buyers, in my opinion, is much more important than it used to be.

Did you say the Infantry Assault Badge was together with the award document in the same group? Is it directly attributed to the vet or his family? If so, this in and of itself would constitute (at least in my opinion) an additional reason for asking a "premium" for this little group of two objects. As I've stated, having the right buyer is of course "everything", but asking $250 (U.S.) outside of Germany for this pair of items - possibly somewhat more - does not seem all that unreasonable. Within Germany, more of this kind of object is available and therefore prices are lower.

I can tell you that, as recently as last Fall, an 8-piece set of "table silver" (including a platter) stamped "SS-Reich" and attributed to the "Das Reich" Panzer Division, sold for 768 Euros at a European militaria auction.

As Denis stated, it is a ware from Deutsche Reichsbahn, no connection to Das Reich division. Maybe Third Reich Tinnies, and Political Organizations Forum can help you rippa, where Reichsbahn related discussion is accepted.

Attached is a photo of a DR marking seen on trains.

Akira,

If you refer to his initial posting, he also mentions items (a cup and saucer) marked "SS-Reich". These are the Das Reich items to which I referred with my posting regarding prices.

Yes, you are correct in that he also mentions a serving platter which is apparently marked for the Deutsche Reichsbahn. I don't know the value of such an item, but would guess no more than about 50-100 Euros.
