more info from this site I absolutely second Mr. Orchard.
Anyway, the sign might have belonged to 9./I.R.6 (30.ID, Demjansk area 1941-43), company leader Olt. Heinz Sparbier, KC 17.10.1942

Update:
I just received a letter from Prof. Weidemann, author of the book mentioned above. He says that it is extremely likely that the sign belonged to Kompanie Sparbier, 30. Infanterie-Division. The division formed two special formations: Kompanie Sparbier (commander OLt. Sparbier) from I.R.6 and Kompanie Stein (commander Hptm. Stein) from I.R.26. Both companies were used as a special task force by the 30.I.D, deployed mainly at critical spots.
Hptm. Stein also got the KC on 26.Nov.1944, KIA 5.Feb.1945
