Need help on this unit - SS Nederland

    Dear All,

Please find attached a nice award document signed by Jurgen Wagner commander of the Brigade Nederland.

Who can tell me more about the unit Fahrschwadron 300 which was attached to the Brigade Nederland at that time.

    Many thanks in advance.

Collecting German award documents, other paperwork and photos relating to Norway and Finland.

I'm sorry to say this, but the signature on your document looks very shakey and does not appear to "flow" like a genuine Wagner autograph. I hope it's just the poor reproduction on my browser!
      Max.

        Dear Max,

Thanks for your reply, but have several Wagner signatures and this one is exactly the same as the others.

I am very intereseted in Jurgen Wagner so if you can show me yours I would be very thankful

        Thanks and best regards,

        Rene

An afterthought for Simon's correct unit ID. Several early elements of Polizei Divison were actually Army units numbered 300 as originally what became the Polizei Division was to have been the 300.Infanterie Division. Most units were eventually replaced and used in other Army formations, in the original Polizei Division composition its original artillery unit was actully Army Artillerie Regiment 300 and its signals detachment Army Nachrichtenabteilung 300.

              Rene,
I was pointing out the shakey appearance of the signature on your document which could be as a result of poor PC reproduction. However, although your illustrated signature looks like a Wagner signature, it does appear 'wobbly' which might indicate that it could be a copied signature. Unless a person is ill or injured, a true signature is bold and flows, showing no hesitation in it's execution. Yours (in the scan above) has all the hallmarks of a copied signature on my browser. Maybe if you provided a close-up, it would settle the matter.
Unfortunately, my Wagner signatures are in safe custody along with the majority of my collection and therefore not readily accessible.
              Max.

                Rene,
Can you produce a close-up of the signature?
Maybe if I illustrate what I mean in my previous posts, it might be of help. I have tried to enlarge your original scanned signature and have indicated in red the points of the signature which are shakey. The blue arrow indicates another hallmark of a copied signature. Genuine signatures end in a 'flourish' and do not come to an abrupt end where a copier or forger inadvertantly stops dead. The smudge in yours at the very end is an extremely common indication of a forged signature.
Now I'm not saying that yours is a forgery, but the scan you have provided does lean towards that conclusion.
                Max.

                  Dear Max,

                  Thanks for the explanation

This weekend I will make a close up by Photo camera.

                  Thanks and best regards,

                  Rene

As a German, I think it is quite peculiar that the word "Gefreiter" is not inflected. In proper German it would be "Gefreiten" as the word "dem" demands a Dative noun following...

                      Dear Max,

Here is another Wagner signature I have.

It also looks as "wooby" as the other.

                      Best regards,

                      Rene

Can't agree with you I'm afraid. This one is obviously genuine and has no wobbly appearance in its execution like the first. It is bold and definite without hesitation in the flow of the pen.
                        Regards,
                        Max.

Aha! All is revealed....in this image there is no apparent hesitation in the strokes. Marvellous what a good close-up can reveal. This example illustrates perfectly how one cannot tell if a signature is right or wrong purely from a PC image.
                            Thanks,
                            Max.
