Rare pictues from German/Italien Division San Marco

    Hello

I want to show you a few new pick ups from the 2nd Italien Division San Marco.

I got an convolut of a soldier who was part in this italien special division, he was a austrian (vienna) and he was with them in Grafenwöhr februar 1944 in the training camp an then he served with them in Italy Aug/Sept/oktober 1944 (Ligurian coast, Allassios, Albenga, Campochiesa, Kloster san giuliano, voghera ) till the end in februar 45 , last picture is from voghera sitting on a street stone.

Does anyone have more information for which operations this unit was used for.

Was it normal that also the german soldiers wear the special badge.

    All information are welcome!

    cheers buckeru

      Hello Buckeru,

very nice photos thanks for sharing, the San Marco marine infantry
division was composed aprox. 16000 soldiers is one of the most important
unit of RSI period, the badge in photo is the honor badge of training course
in Germany. Please see this link discussion about this badge.
The division operate in Liguria on a 75Km front with 12000 men
other 2000 soldiers support the military activity between Garfagnana
      and Abetone.
      cheers, Raffaello

"six italians, dressed in rather unusual diving suits and equipped with materials of laughably little cost have swung the military balance of power in the Mediterranean in favour of the Axis".
