Here's another one from the same ceremony , you can see here that the second Rttf. is wearing the TK , although the Off. on the left is wearing the SS patch (what also happend in TK) .
There's also another picture where you can see that a soldier is wearing the Demjansk-shield .I don't know who the StandartenFhr. is

Thanks Hardigan for the extra info and the photo shot at the same time as mine. It's a shame we still do not know who this standartenfuhrer is.

        regards

I think that this SS-Standartenführer is Michael Lippert (SS-Nr. 2968), commander of SS-Unterführerschule "Arnheim" (Arnhem). Great pictures indeed of a rarely photographed historical SS-Officer !

Do left handers not revert to a full hand shake? Serious question.

His right hand appears heavily bandaged in the last photo, but not in the previous one.

He appears to be holding his left glove, in his right hand which is still gloved. Hes doing this the last two photos, while shaking hands.

                  Peter,

Any chance of getting a clearer picture with the first shot. Concentrating on the SS-Standartenführer's decorations and the SS-Hstuf to his left (right in the picture) to confirm his identification. It could be Lippert but considering his file is missing from the archives then it is hard to confirm.

                  Cheers

                  Scott

                    Scott,
His file is missing? I saw his file on one of my visits to the BDC about 10 years ago. The photos were very poor, but I'm pretty sure that the mystery SS-Standartenführer in this thread is NOT Michael Lippert.

Here is Lippert. As you can see, it doesn't look like our man.

                        Max,

I should have been more specific...was not in the NARA files. BDC...memory blank?

This is a photo of Lippert I have taken from a Der Freiwillige magazine in the 80s....found on my website here: http://www.defendingarnhem.com/lippert.htm

My photo looks a little different from yours....war can do this I guess. He was severley wounded on the Eastern front after being shot in the face, ankle and stomach.

I guess the question still stands...who is the mystery SS-Standartenführer !!

BDC.....Berlin Document Centre (now Bundesarchiv Berlin-Lichterfelde.) Lippert's SSO file is there.
I have the same photo of Lippert taken in the latter stages of the war and I believe it does resemble his SSO file photo, but aged. However, the mystery SS-Standartenführer does not and he appears much older, even than the later wardate photo of Lippert.
So, yes, I think we still have the mystery to solve. Who is the SS-Standartenführer?

He's Max Schimmelpfennig, commander of SS- und Waffen-Unterführerschule Laibach.

It couldn't be Lippert because the man on the picture is much older and the photo is dated on the back 20-4-1944. And as far as I know Lippert died in february 1944 in Russia.

It could be Max Schimmelpfennig because he was promoted to standartenfuhrer in November 1943 and became commanding officer in
                              Laibach in November 1944.

Maybe someone has a pic of Schimmelpfennig so we can compare?

                              Regards
